Watermelon Fast!!!

Hello there beautiful people of the universe!!!

Okay, so it was about 2 and a half weeks ago and I am just now getting to writing about it; however, I think that this is a good thing because then I can give an update about how I am doing this far afterwards!!!!

So I did a watermelon “fast.”  My very first one! So what exactly does that mean???  Well I ate nothing but watermelon for about 2.5 days!!!  It was great and I am going to tell you all about it.  🙂

Here are the watermelons that I consumed:

3 beautiful and super-delicious melons!

I always make sure to buy the seeded ones:

Oh yeah, check out those lovely seeds!  Why do I prefer the seeded ones you ask?  Well, aside from the fact that it is super-fun to spit out all of those seeds……ha ha!  Okay on a more serious note, in my opinion, it just isn’t natural to breed melons, or anything for that matter to not have seeds!  Seeds are life-creators!  They are part of how nature is supposed to survive!  Not only that, but the seeded watermelons have about ten times more flavor than the seedless ones.  They seriously do!

Okay so how about the “why?”  Why did I do this fast?  Well the main reason is that I was really feeling like my body could use a good cleaning.  Fasting can be quite the controversial subject.  Some people say it is a great way to clean out, others argue that it is completely unnecessary while some categorize it as a dangerous thing to do.  I always try to follow my heart and my intuition and for me, this fast seemed like a great idea.

How does fasting “clean out” your system?  For starters, the body is often “clogged up” for a variety of reasons.  Poor food choices, bad food combining, and emotional turmoil are just a few reasons why we often become this way.  When one chooses to go on a fast, they are making it really easy for the body to “clean house” because they are either only consuming one type of food or else a combination of foods that are really easy to digest.  This helps the body to kind of push through all of that build up that has accumulated over time.  Pretty cool!

Why did I choose watermelon for my fast?  Well, come on!  It is delicious!  Just look:

Okay, okay, I’ll get serious again!  😉  Watermelon, aside from being magically delicious love-food, is one of the fastest digesting foods on the planet.  This is why it is recommended to always eat it alone.  I mean, seriously, go try eating a bunch of heavy food and then having a bowl of watermelon when you are done!  You are probably going to have some serious digestive problems!  This is because the watermelon wants to get through right away but it gets “stuck” behind the other stuff that takes a lot longer to digest!  So I say, because of the fast-digestion-action nature of the watermelon, it is the perfect food for fasting!

Don’t get me wrong, other people have success fasting on all sorts of different fruits, veggies, smoothies and juices.  Some people even fast on water alone!  Do whatever works for your body if you do decide to fast and of course, BE CAREFUL!!!!  I have been “doctoring” my own body for quite some time now so I feel pretty good about my ability to tell if something is going awry.  If you are a first-time faster, you may want to do it with experienced supervision!  The reason for this is that when we are cleaning out the body this way, the process could jump-start your body to do a clean-up a little too quickly.  This could result in your body being flooded with too many toxins all at once that are trying to get out!  As a result, you could get kind of sick!  So again, make sure you know what you are doing when you choose to fast!

Alright, alright.  That was a lot of information!  Well in case you are wondering, I will now share my personal fasting experience!  I chose to do it over the weekend as it is kind of hard (at least for me) to fast on watermelon while working.  The reasons being that I had to eat constantly and also I was in the bathroom peeing a lot!  So yeah, I mostly stayed home this weekend!

To ease into the fast, I consumed only fruit the day before.  I figured that this would make it easier for my system to start pushing on the day of the fast and would minimize any discomfort I might experience.  The day I started eating watermelon I did great all morning.  By the afternoon I started feeling a little bit of pain in my stomach and I figured that this meant there was some “stuff” in me that was still getting in the way of the melon!  The pain didn’t last long and then it all came through if ya know what I mean!  🙂  After that it was smooth sailing the whole rest of the time.  I was going to the bathroom regularly, and overall I just felt really light and super happy!!!!  In fact, I really didn’t want to stop as soon as I did but it would have been hard for me to continue at work.  So I started day 3 with watermelon in the morning.  I had a couple of bowls and then it was time to “break my fast.”

When breaking a fast, I believe that it is important to start off with something light.  You don’t want to go from eating nothing but watermelon for days to eating some really heavy foods!  This might shock your body a bit!  So I started with fruits.  I officially broke my fast with grapes.  Then I had some cherries and then some plums.  After the fruit, I went ahead and had a salad for “dinner.”  All was well!

I have been feeling so good ever since that I haven’t really eaten much other than fruits and veggies!  Not that eating lots of fruits and veggies is at all uncommon for me, but I usually eat some nuts, seeds, beans and rice as well.  I have been kind of taking a break from these things as I am really enjoying the extra light feeling that I have been experiencing!  I plan to add these foods back in gradually as I see fit, however, for now I am really happy with my results!

Hurrah for watermelon fasting!  Here is one more picture to make you drool:

I hope you are having a splendid day and I would love to hear about your fasting experiences if you have any to share!!!

I have to say that i honestly think you look anorexic no judgement intended, just concern.

    1. Tanni says:

No anorexia here! Not sure what that conclusion was based on, but I do think my pictures here on WordPress are a bit stretched, which makes me look thinner. Anyway, thanks for the concern. Have a beautiful day. 🙂

Maybe anorexic is her code word for cute, or maybe that’s just me 😉

    2. Phoenix says:

How does a person “look” anorexic? Anorexia is defined by fear of becoming fat and refusal to eat. Some of the biggest eaters out there are the skinniest; take banana girl Freelee for example. Likewise many of the people who purposely starve or calorie restrict, and obsess over the scales are pudgy. Some people have trouble gaining weight just as others struggle to lose weight, regardless of how much they eat, and of course eating the right foods can help mend that situation. Anyway, I think Tanni looks great and exudes vitality that really comes across even better in videos than the pictures.

I’m going to do the fast for a week! 😀 I want to ask though..did you eat one whole watermelon a day? Did that seem like too much? I’m thinking about eating half of one if it’s one of the big ones..
    Ty for the post!

    1. Tanni says:

That’s awesome, Nicole! I actually ate a little more than 1 watermelon each day (they were large watermelons) and that was perfect for me. I didn’t plan out a certain amount though. I just ate when I was hungry. 🙂 I am sure your body will tell you how much you should eat if you listen. 🙂 I hope you enjoy the fast! I would love to hear how it goes for you!

Very interesting occurrence after the fast…I eliminated a few very very tiny crystals…what my husbands calls ninjas stars as he has experienced the passing of kidney stones. I am glad I got rid of them before they got any bigger. I love watermelon fasting. Its a good way to celebrate the summer solstice. And I too eat a little more than 1 large one per day. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your experience! *Hugs* 🙂

Super interesting. We had a few people over on the long weekend, and everyone brought giant local watermelons. I asked my daughter what I could do with all of them. She suggested a watermelon fast. 1.5 days in. I’m just processing the seeds, pulp and part of the clean rind. Very cleansing experience thus far. 🙂

That’s great, Daniel! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

    1. Tanni says:

That is great that you are doing it for 30 days! Yes, our body really does have all of the answers when we can just remember to listen! Best to you on your journey! *Hugs* 🙂

Oh the 2nd day of my 3 day fast I was in a hot yoga class. Obviously, I was sweating at 108 degrees, but what happened about an hour in blew my mind. My sweat almost seemed to smell like pure ammonia, all of a sudden, it just rushed out of me.
After I finished the 3 days, I have slowly transitioned back to a normal-healthy diet. I have found that some things I used to consider needed, I no longer have the desire for. Interesting experience.

    1. Tanni says:

Definitely some toxic stuff coming out there!

That is awesome that you no longer want some of the old stuff! Fasting/cleansing is certainly a powerful way to heal! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I’m on Day 5 of a watermelon fast. I will probably go a day or two more. I too love watermelon and always feel great during my various cleanses. Watermelon is such a refreshing and delicious way to cleanse.

I wish it was Watermelon Season all year long!

Appreciate your some other insightful blog site. Where altogether different may perhaps I receive that sort of info written in this kind of ideal approach? I have a problem that we are at the moment working on, i happen to be for the glimpse away intended for similarly info.

  11. Jasmin says:

Tanni! I was thinking about going a watermelon island detox… How much weight is watermelon per day?

    1. Tanni says:

Hi Jasmin! I am not really sure weight-wise as I haven’t ever weighed my watermelons but I typically eat 1-1 1/2 of the very large seeded watermelons per day when I fast but it varies. I think the most important thing to do is just listen to your body and eat when you desire to. Also be sure and follow the precautions for easing into and out of fasting to do it safely! Best to you and thanks for stopping by! ~Tanni

  12. Did you record any weight loss after the fast was over? If so, how many lbs did you lose? (:

    1. Tanni says:

I didn’t pay attention to weight loss as my focus was just on cleaning out my body and I was already thin to begin with. However, cleansing/balancing/healing will lead to the body balancing itself out to where it should be over time! 🙂

      Thank you for connecting! 🙂

  13. Lisa says:

Hey Tanni, it was really great to read your short experience with the watermelon fast. I’m actually on the 3rd day of mine but I think I wasn’t doing it properly. I bought two HUGE watermelons but really ate about half of one or a bit less per day. I was feeling really hungry and should have ate more. Oh well next time I will do it right. I’m glad I did it anyway. My system needed a bit of a break. I think I will break it tomorrow. Thanks for sharing again 😊.

I’ve done semi watermelon fasts, like for most of a day. But I always have a hard time not eating something else for dinner! Tips?

Also if I eat the seeds raw do they have the fatty properties? I know their good fats but doesn’t it defeat the purpose of the quick digesting cleansing fruit?

    1. Tanni says:

      Hi Adam,

My best tip for dealing with the dinner issue is to just eat more watermelon! Watermelon is a fairly low calorie fruit so sometimes when we are craving other foods it is just hunger and filling up on more watermelon can help. Also, the cravings do tend to lessen the further into the fast you go.

Another thing is to go into the fast mentally prepared and knowing what your intention is and WHY you WANT to succeed! Remind yourself that you are worthy of the benefits you will receive from the fast and send yourself love constantly throughout the process.

Finally, if you really feel that you should stop for some reason, then listen to your body. 🙂

I would not eat the seeds during a watermelon cleanse. Yes, they will slow down your digestion and get in the way of the cleanse. They still do contain the fattier, heavier properties, yes.

Best to you with your cleansing! Thanks for stopping by!

      ~Tanni

      1. Adam says:

Ok thanks! See that’s the ONLY thing that keeps me from getting seeded more often! If I could eat them as I go I would get them but there’s soooooo many seeds that I spend more time picking them out then eating! Plus I think seedless taste similar. Maybe it’s just me or maybe I just pick them out with good skill but I think they both taste great!

      2. Tanni says:

I know what you mean about the seed picking. It doesn’t really bother me but do what works for you and will help you succeed! 🙂

Omg !!!!!, I love watermelon fasting too, this is so awesome. What I love about it the most is that I get really hyper, happy and energetic on a watermelon fast. I feel quick and nimble and clean. Its such a beautiful feeling. I kinda had a feeling too that the body kinda holds up toxins and then when it gets something vitalizing and nutricious (like watermelon lol) it releases those toxins, but it could be uneasy at first as those toxins could make us feel a little sick temporarily till they get outta our system. I’m so glad I found your post.

  16. kat says:

Elloo!! Thnks for the info I startedtoday, how much weight did you lose?

  17. Chris says:

Understand the importance of depuration and you will understand why people get sick during a “detox”. Detoxification occurs in the liver. Depuration is the actual removal of toxins through skin, bladder, bowel, lungs. No body uses the correct terminology.

    1. Tanni says:

Maybe a pound or two, I wasn’t checking or trying to lose weight 🙂 Anything done to clean out the body would likely result in weight loss at least at some point I would think 🙂
